This week Mike talks to Amy and Liza about First Responders PTSD and Mental Health. Amy Davenport Dakin, LCPC, LCMHC. She has been a counselor for 22 years and within the last 6 years she has started treating first responders solely for PTSD, anxiety, depression and substance use as well as other issues. She owns New Perceptions (www.nperceptions.com) and she is the behavioral health director for the Professional Firefighters of Maine. I provide training and oversee Peer Support programs as well as working on legislative issues and community education.
Last year Steel Guardians did an amazing job for the protecting the protectors non profit to raise awareness for PTSD with first responders. Since then my husband and I have joined the MC as they are an amazing group of people.
Liza is a Charter Member and Founder of the Steel Guardians MC and is a volunteer fire fighter with Waldo Fire Dept. She joined the MC because she pours herself into her passions, she wants to help her community, loves to ride motorcycles and explore new roads, and wants to pass her knowledge and feel good stories to others. She is affiliated as a Peer Supporter for crisis situations through New Perceptions and has a background in Business Management.Pipes Against PTSD
why: more and more of our first responders are suffering from PTSD. Calls are getting worse, the number of first responders is declining, burn out is on the rise, and we want to assist ending the stigma about seeking help. It’s not a sign of weakness to struggle with PTSD and/or depression. It’s OK to not be Ok.

Starting at 10:00am with brunch at Elks followed by a scenic motorcycle ride. Ending at Augusta elks lodge with a bike show from 4-6pm. Pig Roast with all fixings. Dakota Maine‘s Ozzy tribute band Crazy Train will be performing on the outdoor stage at 7pm.
